Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) will be engaging owners of drinking spots and other places of entertainment along the Sakumono beach which is within its jurisdiction.
The has become necessary following the directive of social distancing in the fight against COVID-19.
So far, despite the risk posed to patrons to such places, revellers are often seen at the beach in their numbers especially on weekends.
Municipal Chief Executive, Adwoa Amoako, disclosed this in an interview when she toured markets that were being disinfected in an attempt to mitigate the spread of the virus in the Greater Accra region.
“We are moving to the beach tomorrow to explain to owners of the facilities the need to observe social distancing. We wrote to them earlier but we are following up tomorrow,” she said.

According to her, the attention being given to market centres is being extended to the beaches.
Markets including Texpo, Community 2, 5 and Adjei Kojo were disinfected March 232, 2020.

The fumigation exercise was extended to Community 2 No.4 Basic.
“For the traders, we sensitized them last Friday on maintaining the highest standard of hygiene. We have also purchased and will distribute soaps, sanitizers, tissue and Veronica buckets across markets in the municipality”, she said.
Adowa Amoako indicated that practising hygiene at the market can minimize possible spread in the event of any infection.
The TWMA also had support from neighbouring, Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (AshMA) to jointly inspect the Adjei Kojo market disinfection.
Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Albert Okyere and his team made a few observations at the market.
He asked that a temporal urinal be pulled down as its location as it could pose health risks to traders and buyers who visit the market.

With her delegation and support from the police and military, the exercise was successfully carried out.
Currently, Ghana has 27 confirmed COVID-19 and two deaths out of this number.
Meanwhile, there have been over 300,000 cases recorded globally.
