As part of measures to clamp down on the number of prank calls to the Emergency Services daily, the Communications Ministry says it will block such callers.
According to the Ministry, that is a prudent way to allow people who need help to access the dedicated 112 number to get the desired help.
In a statement Tuesday, the Ministry indicated that over 1,887,125, out of the 1,902,926 received on the emergency number have been recorded as prank calls.
This, the Ministry has indicated, has become a disruption to the effectiveness of work at the emergency centre.
While urging the public to desist from such activities, the Ministry said it will from Friday, March 27, block all numbers that place prank calls to 112 line.
