President Akufo-Addo has bemoaned the stigmatisation of people who have recovered from Covid-19.
According to him, it is worrying that a cross-section of Ghanaians finds comfort in rejecting persons who have struggled to find their way to recovery.
“I remain concerned about the stigma associated with this disease,” he said in his 11th address to the nation on the coronavirus crisis.
This comes on the back of recent reports of individuals connected to the pandemic getting shunned by society.
JoyNews has also highlighted stories of frontline health workers lamenting rejection in the wider society because of their roles in mitigating the impact of the virus on the nation.
In his 11th address to the nation on Covid-19 on Sunday evening, President Akufo-Addo advised against stigmatization saying it undermines the national effort to fight Covid-19.
“There is nothing shameful about testing positive,” he said.
“We do not have to lose our sense of community because of this pandemic.”
Meanwhile, Ghana’s novel coronavirus case count rose to 11,964 as of June 13, according to President Akufo-Addo.
He further disclosed that the number of deaths is now 54 adding that the recoveries also stand at 4,258.
Ghana currently has 7,652 active cases, which, the president says, is what Ghanaians should focus on instead of being alarmed by the rising number of confirmed cases.
