The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration says the perpetrators behind the demolition of the Nigerian High Commission's property in Accra have been identified.
Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency clarified that the Nigerian High Commission's Chancery/Residence had not been demolished, contrary to claims on social media.
"The building in question is nether the Chancery nor the Residence, but a property belonging to the Nigerian High Commission that was unfortunately pulled down by some now identified private individuals," Madam Ayorkor Botchwey said.
"Let me on this note reiterate government's promise to bring the perpetrators to book, while it ensures that the structure is restored to its original state."
Meanwhile, the government of Ghana has accepted to reconstruct the demolished building at the residence of the Nigerian High Commissioner.
The building was being constructed to house staff and visiting diplomats to the High Commission before it was demolished on Saturday June 20, 2020.
Two persons have been arrested and charged by the police following the act of vandalism.
The investigative committee was set up by the government to probe circumstances leading to the unlawful break-in of the structure belonging to the Nigerian High Commission.
