The Intellectual Ladies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has welcomed the choice of former education minister, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate of John Mahama.
Latif Khalid Asheeka, the national president of the group, at a press conference in Wa stated that her nomination gives hope to the future of women in the country's political arena, reports Joy News' Rafiq Salam.
She further commended former president, John Mahama for his choice of running mate for the 2020 general election.
According to Khalid Asheeka, choosing a woman of her calibre in a country where women’s role in political leadership is relegated to the background demonstrates the parties inclusiveness.
It also shows the progressive leadership style of the John Mahama and the NDC as a whole, she added.
She said that they are not perturbed about the insults since her nomination Monday by some supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
They pledged to work assiduously to ensure the success of the party in the 2020 polls.
