Three students of Wesley High SHS in the Asante Akim Central Municipality in the Ashanti Region have recovered from the novel coronavirus.
This was disclosed by the Municipal Director of Education for Asante Akim Central, Patricia Sarpong, during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 3 unit classroom block for five different basic schools in the area.
The project is being funded by the Member of Parliament for the area, Lawyer Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, and the Municipal Assembly.
In addition to the construction of the 3 unit classroom blocks, the construction of an ultra-modern water project with solar panels at Abosomtweagya in the same municipality is also ongoing.
Speaking to Adom News, the Municipal Director of Education Patricia Sarpong stated that, the three students had fully recovered from the disease and are back on campus to continue with their preparations towards the upcoming WASSCE exams.
Speaking further, she disagreed with calls by the Minority Caucus in Parliament for the closure of senior high schools on the back of some recorded cases of Covid-19 in some second-cycle institutions in the country.
She argued that, the final year students are left with just three weeks to sit for and complete their final exams, hence, should be allowed to do so.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament of the area, Lawyer Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi who also spoke to Adom News, said the calls for government to close down senior high schools are unnecessary.
According to him, the disease has come to stay with, and as such people need to obey the safety protocols to protect ourselves and others from the virus.
