The University of Education, Winneba, has outlined measures established to ensure continuous academic activities amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the school, should the Covid-19 pandemic continue, it has put in place measures to ensure that admissions for the 2020/21 academic year continue without any hindrance.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Andy Ofori Birikorang, at a news conference on Monday stated that the university would adopt a hybrid model of academic activities with or without the coronavirus.
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has affected every facet of life and may forever change how the world has always lived and conducted its businesses, and of all the sectors of governance, the educational sector, particularly at the tertiary level, appears to have been most gravely affected and therefore requires a more pragmatic approach towards their resolution.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor of UEW intimates, the university has between now and September put in place varying options to keep the university environment active.
“If the pandemic continues in its ravaging form, and we are unable to come to school for the ‘face-to-face interactions’, we have also made plans of upscaling our servers to levels where it could accommodate all students no matter the number. Between now and September, management is working hard on this,” he explained.
Prof Andy Birikorang further explained, the university was going to adopt the hybrid system of learning should COVID-19 even be a thing of the past.
He is, however, hoping that something ‘magical’ would happen so students of the university would be back on campus with excitement.
“The new normal indicates that the learning management system has come to stay. If we come back to school, we would be combining the two- the hybrid system and it will be perfectly done for the satisfaction of our students and the university community,” he said.
