The Chief Executive Officer of Engineers & Planners Company Limited, Ibrahim Mahama has sued lawyer Maurice Ampaw and Wontumi Communications Limited at the Accra High Court, for defamation of character.
In the Writ of Summons filed at the High Court by Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah, the lawyer for Mr. Mahama, the Plaintiff is asking for damages of GH¢2 million against the two defendants for publishing untrue and malicious statements about him.
This follows an allegation by Mr. Maurice Ampaw during a show telecast on Wontumi Television that the business mogul whose companies have a combined total staff strength of over 3000 employees is a liability to the state.
The outspoken lawyer also accused Ibrahim Mahama of using fraudulent means to obtain a bauxite agreement from the government.
But listing a number of reliefs, Ibrahim Mahama is seeking a declaration that "the 2nd defendant has failed in their constitutional duty to protect the reputation of other citizens" while "the 1st defendant has failed in his duty to maintain the honour and integrity of his profession".
Mr. Mahama is further urging the court to issue a perpetual injunction "restraining the defendants whether by themselves, their servants or agents or otherwise from further publishing the same or any similar derogatory and defamatory matter of and concerning the plaintiff."
