Disc Jockey and radio presenter Bismark Boachie popularly known as DJ Premier has advised comedians to refrain from highlighting specific political parties in their jokes.
According to him, comedians should be balanced in their approach towards political jokes, as being biased against one party or another may engender attacks from party sympathizers and will ultimately hurt their careers.
“It is good as a comedian as part of the act to create some of these jokes, but where people will not accept some of these ideas is when it has to be about one political party.
Because if you can create jokes about John Mahama in his era, you should be able to create similar jokes in Nana Addo’s era,” he told Andy Dosty, host of Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM today.
He made reference to the political satire by ace Ghanaian satirist KSM’s piece ‘Afia Serebuor’ where no emphasis was laid on a specific political party.
“I remember KSM’s Afia Serebuor which included Kufuor and Jerry Rawlings... But that moment it is focused all the time on a particular party it may appear the comedian has some affiliations with other parties,” he added.
He was speaking in relation to grievances raised by comedian Waris on the general reaction of Ghanaians’ to political jokes.
It is recalled that OB Amponsah suffered such criticisms from Ghanaians after his jokes about former president John Dramani Mahama.
