The Northern Regional Director for the National Roads and Safety Authority, Mr Alexander Ayattah has cautioned all political parties to ensure that their drivers have enough rest during campaign tours to help reduce road accidents this campaign season.
Speaking to JoyFM, Mr Alexander Ayattah mentioned that some of the road accidents in recent times have been associated with driver fatigue and therefore urged political parties to cut down on unplanned campaign activities.
"Unplanned activities that they take leaves them to be tired. Drivers do not even have the time to sleep. The political parties delay in several localities and try to reach other constituencies as they planned and this does not help.
"We need politicians to plan their campaign journeys so that when they start their journey, they can get there in a stipulated time.
"I believe that if we are able to look at it critically at this time of the season; election time, we can do something to prevent these unwarranted deaths we have," he added.
His comment follows the death of the New Patriotic Party's Parliamentary Candidate for the Yapei Kusowgu constituency in the Savannah Region, Abu Kamara who died in a fatal road accident.
The car Mr Abu Kamara was driving was involved in a head-on collision with an articulator truck at the Datoyili police barrier on the outskirts of Tamale.
