Hemang Lower Denkyira MP, Bright Wireko–Brobby says former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Ocquaye was the best man suited for the speakership position of the 8th Parliament.
He has described the Speaker of the 7th Parliament as a "compassionate, loving and competent handler of the affairs" of the country.
This notion, according to him, was reason he cast his ballot for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nominee, Mike Ocquaye during the electoral process in Parliament.
In an issued statement, Bright Wireko–Brobby stated, “I have a strong admiration for him as the best person to steer the affairs of this parliament which is why I voted for him. I voted Prof. Mike Ocquaye.”
Hemang Lower Denkyira MP dismissed allegations that he did not vote the former Dome MP as Speaker-elect of the 8th Parliament.
“I am still baffled anyone would want to fabricate such outright lies against me. Let us not allow such lies to thrive,” he stated.
He also noted that scenes in footages that showed him not voting are false and hold no credentials.
“I think that assertion that I didn’t cast my vote as is narrated in the video could not have been true because all votes were cast.
"When I stood up from my seat, I took a pen from Ayawaso Central MP Hon. Henry Quartey. I then walked to go collect my ballot paper.
“As I climbed the stairs to the podium, I slowed down further and used the pen I took from Hon. Henry Quartey to tick Prof. Mike Ocquaye as my choice. All we had to do was a tick, a process that took less than five seconds for me to do whilst I was walking up the podium,” he explained.
Bright Wireko-Brobby is of the assertion that these rumours are intended to stifle the growth of the governing party. However, he says the NPP will remain resolute.
“Our party shall rise from these difficult moments. Long live the Parliament of Ghana and long live the New Patriotic Party,” he stated.
