The Coffee Federation of Ghana, an umbrella group for coffee farmers is calling on government to as a matter of urgency fulfill promises to its members.
According to the federation, its members are anxious because they have not exported any coffee since 2015, complicating their livelihoods.
Speaking for the federation, its President, Chief Nathaniel Ebo Nsarko said, “We’ve heard a lot of rhetoric which never see the day of light but this one, we’re holding the government to it because the farmers, processors, marketers and exporters are all very anxious. They have been at home, since 2015 we haven’t been able to export.”
Mr. Nsarko indicated that he is holding President Akuffo-Addo to a statement he made at Inter-African Coffee Organisation (IACO) conference where he assured that the coffee sector will be revamped.
“So the statement came as a form of negotiation or insight into the area of coffee and what they can do. So what we’re expecting to see from government is yes.”
He further added “the President at the IACO conference mentioned that the coffee sector is going to be revamped. That is a statement, we would want to see practicality of it, and we would want to be engaged. They [government] said they want to set up a coffee division at COCOBOD which has still not been established”.
