The Minority in Parliament is calling for an immediate probe into the activities of the firm responsible for the economic management of the country, the McKinsey & Company.

Addressing the House in a debate before the approval of Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu raised concern about the amount government pays the consulting firm.

He stated that a sum of $1.5 million per quarter for services rendered to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

This, according to Mr Iddrisu, is a complete “rip-off” of the state and its resources.

The Tamale South legislator further questioned the relevance of the arrangement.

He argued that Ghana has competent organisations to provide an equal service the McKinsey Group is currently offering.

“And then you pay McKinsey Group this money to be doing what? We will call for further investigations into the operations and activities of McKinsey as they relate to the Ministry of Finance and as they also work for the Ghana Revenue Authority. We have competent hands to do the work in Ghana.”

“We don’t need any McKinsey Group in Ghana for any purpose. It’s a rip-off of the state and the republic given the huge sums of money that are paid to them (McKinsey Group) and we want to know how he arrived at the procurement of that group,” he said.

Ghana in 2018, hired the services of McKinsey & Co. to help boost collections after missing the revenue target for the year.

The McKinsey & Co. is an American worldwide management consulting firm, founded in 1926 that advises on strategic management to corporations, governments, and other organisations.
