The Eastern regional secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the government's approach to clamping down on illegal mining is not sustainable.
According to the party, the strategy adopted is abusive and synonymous to mob justice.
It is therefore urging the government to halt the operations of the military task force to enable it adopt a 'transparent, accountable and sincere manner' in fighting the menace.
The party made these observations in statement signed by the regional communication officer, Darlas Ampomah Williams.
The party is also of the view that the anti-galamsey operation has become an avenue for powerful political entities to pursue a personal vendetta.
The statement comes on the back of the destruction of about twenty (20) excavators and several mining equipment by the military taskforce set up by the government to crack down on illegal mining in the Eastern region on Sunday.
Eight (8) out of the number of excavators and one dozers allegedly belong to the National Women's Organizer of the ruling party, NPP.
