Today on JoyNews' legal clinic, The Law, the panel took a look at the Intestate Succession Bill.
The new bill proposes a change from distributing the property of the deceased in ratios to percentages.
It proposes securing and guaranteeing 50 percent of the property for distribution. The surviving spouse can enjoy his or her percentage of the joint property exclusively, in addition, to the share of 50 percentage portion of the property for distribution.
For an estranged spouse (i.e a spouse who has been separated but not divorced), he or she can benefit from the distribution of the property of the deceased spouse.
Host, Samson Lardy Anyenini interacted with Chairperson of LAWA Ghana, Sheila Minkah-Premo on the nitty-gritty of the bill.
Currently, the country operates under the Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111).
