Ghana’s Emmanuel Commey, winner of the just ended Homowo Championship in Accra played one of his best games ever to silence the home crowd at the ongoing ITTF Africa Western region championship currently being held in Lagos, Nigeria by defeating home favourite Samuel Boboye.
Coming from a deficit of 0-2, Commey put up an excellent display to pull one game back. Boboye increased the pressure by extending his lead to 3-1. Against all odds, Commey turned the game around to the surprise of the vociferous fans to tie at 3-3.
In the deciding game, Commey took a commanding lead of 5-2, only for him to make unforced errors. Tied at 9-9 with Boboye serving, Commey missed a glorious chance to win the match. Commey relied on his rich experience and tough mental stamina to dash the hopes of the host nation in their wonder kid. Ghana’s champion player drew from his repertoire of top spins and breathtaking loops to subdue his opponent.
This victory thus qualifies him to the semi-finals of the men’s singles competition.
Emmanuel Commey expressed endless gratitude to all his fans and the Ghana Table Tennis Association and the entire nation for their support.
