Communications Director at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin has confirmed government's intention to complete phase two of the Keta sea defence project.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Jubille House, Mr. Arhin affirmed the statement by the Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye in respect of efforts being made by government to avert the recurrence of the situation in Keta.
Mr Arhin's comments come after some 3000 residents of Keta South Municipality were rendered homeless after tidal surge swept through their homes on Sunday dawn.
Communities such as Abutiakope, Kedzikope and Keta Central are largely affected to the extent that residents have nothing to salvage.
In Anloga, residents of Dzita, Agbledomi, Atiteti, Agokedzi, and Fuveme were also displaced by the fierce tidal surge that swept through the communities during the wee hours of Sunday.
The Communications Director at the Presidency indicated that President Akufo-Addo has been duly apprised of the current happenings in the region.
Mr Arhin assured that feasibility studies for phase two of the project has been completed.
"God willing very soon, government should be able to find the funds to be able to do this. Once that happens the Minister for Works and Housing would definitely apprise the country of whatever is supposed to take place," he said.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on the government and the President to deliver on the promise to complete the sea defence wall for residents of the constituency.
Speaking to JoyNews’ Maxwell Agbaba, Dzifa Gomashie stated that “the Minister for Works and Housing came to the floor of Parliament (in May) and answered the question that I filed (after residents were affected by tidal waves then).”
She added that the Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, then paid a visit to the community promising that “by the end of the year we will see the continuation of the sea defence wall. Why they are not here, I do not know. It is in our interest as a country to respond now.”
