Ghana will soon have its own regulation to guide the use of Artificial Intelligence for stakeholders.
The move is to ensure that the country meets the growing needs of technological advancement.
After a short address to climax the Data Protection Week celebration in Accra, Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ama Pomaah Boateng, explained that such a regulation is critical for the country.
The Data Protection Week is marked at every last week of January to create awareness on the need to protect critical information.
In Ghana, the Data Protection Commission has been given the mandate to ensure that privacy of individuals and processing of data is regulated according to the laws of the country.
Ama Pomaa Boateng believed that updating existing technology to conform to modern trend is necessary.
“It is very critical since technology is evolving and new trends are being introduced all the time. We have to update our technologies as well. I believe the regulation will help in ensuring that people become aware of what to do or not.
“The commission may also need to do some sensitisation for the citizens to be aware of the existing rules and regulations along the line” she said.
Executive Director of the Data Protection Commission, Patricia Adusei Poku, told stakeholders that the commission is committed to safeguarding the digital space of the country.
She entreated all businesses to register and obtain a license or face sanctions.
