Two people have died, and seven others have been injured following a road traffic accident at Abor Junction on the Mankessim–Accra Highway in the early hours of Thursday, August 6.

The crash, involving a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 8911-25, occurred shortly before 2:00 a.m., according to information released by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

According to GNFS, the Mankessim Fire Station received a distress call at 1:44 a.m., reporting the collision. Firefighters, supported by personnel from the National Ambulance Service, arrived at the scene at approximately 2:01 a.m. to carry out rescue operations.

Emergency responders found nine occupants in the vehicle. Two of them—a man and a woman—had died by the time rescue teams arrived.

The remaining seven occupants, comprising five men and two women, sustained injuries of varying severity and were attended to before being transported to health facilities for treatment.

Three of the injured were taken to the Mercy Women Catholic Hospital in Mankessim for emergency medical care. The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the Saltpond Government Hospital mortuary pending identification and further procedures.

Authorities have not yet established what caused the accident, and investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Fire Service said the driver of the vehicle escaped the accident without sustaining any injuries, although it remains unclear how the collision occurred.

Following the rescue operation, firefighters removed debris from the roadway to restore normal traffic flow and prevent further accidents along the busy stretch of highway.
