Four teams in the Sahara Conference of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), Rwanda Energy Group, US Monastir, SLAC and AS Sale have booked spots to the playoffs of season 2.
There was double joy for REG as they were crowned champions of the Sahara Conference. They beat Ferroviario da Beira 89-74 in Tuesday’s first game to win their fourth of five games.
The four victories were against AS Sale, SLAC and US Monastir. They fell to hosts, Dakar Universite Club (DUC).
Tunisian side, US Monastir qualified to the playoffs as runners-up to REG, the only team they lost to.
With wins over Beira, DUC and SLAC, AS Salé finished third in the Sahara Conference.
SLAC, who opened their BAL campaign with 85-70 triumph over DUC at the Dakar Arena in the opener of the Conference on March 5, managed only one other victory. It came against Beira.
Hosts, DUC and Mozambique's Beira, who finished with 1-4 mark each, were eliminated from the playoffs contention.
The Nile Conference will take place from April 9 through to 19 in Cairo. Six teams, reigning BAL champions Zamalek, Cobra Sport, Cape Town Tigers, Petro de Luanda, FAP and Espoir Fukash will battle it out for the four final slots in the playoffs.
