The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has welcomed Government’s decision to complete the Agenda 111 project before its second term expires.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show, Vice President of the Association, Dr Justice Yankson said the projects are needed to solve the health infrastructure deficit in the country.
He, however, entreated the government to equip hospitals and health centers under this project with the needed resources, including human resources.
“In as much as we welcome this Agenda 111, we believe there is a need for human resources that would back these facilities especially healthcare professionals and also equipment to run the facility.
“We need to take a critical look at the training. If we are not able to train, attract and retain then we may have challenges when these facilities are completed,” he stressed.
His comment comes after President Akufo-Addo during the 2022 State of the Nation Address admitted that the timeline given by his government for the construction of all hospitals under the government’s Agenda 111 project, was overly ambitious.
He, however, gave the assurance that the projects will be completed before January 7, 2025.
While commending the President on his decision to complete the projects, Dr Yankson entreated the President to factor in how the projects will be maintained to ensure their sustainability.
“The issue of maintenance should also be taken care of right from the word go,” he stressed.
