Kenyan philanthropist, Mary Wangu Maina, has donated golf clubs and 100 golf balls to Captain One Golf Society to support their kids project currently running at major golf clubs in the country.
The kids project trains young and especially less privileged children in communities close to golf-playing areas across the country for free.
Madam Maina, who is currently based in Dallas, USA and a member of the Zimusa Golf Dallas Chapter, said she was motivated to support the project because of the objective and motive.
"...I and my parents have been supporting orphans in their church in Nairobi, therefore supporting Captain One’s Kids Project is nothing new," Maina explained shortly after her donation.
Zimusa in the USA is a registered non-profits golf club which has Zimbabweans, Kenyans, Nigerians, and Botswanans. It is also open to all Africans and Safari Dallas which was originated by Kenyans and has Kenyans and Zimbabweans and Nigerians.
Madam Maina explained that the Zimusa Club also supports all young members below the age of 21 to play for free.
She added that she collects clubs and balls to help young and upcoming golfers to motivate and inspire them.
“So, I went online that’s when I saw a page on IG and facebook in Ghana, I sent a message and someone responded.
“The photos in that page communicated that its young ones not from the rich and I really wanted them to have the many clubs and that’s how I contacted the Society to support,” she noted.
Madam Maina said she would continue to monitor the progress of the kids and assured them of her support for them to realise their dreams.
President and Founder of Captain Golf Society, Pius Ayeh Appiah, thanked Madam Maina for her support and assured her of handing over the donation to the rightful users.
He mentioned that the kids participated in their maiden national competition which was the Ghana Golf Association’s Junior Open Championship and he was proud of the progress being made by the kids.
He said they will continue to give out their best for the project to give hope to the young talented but needy golfers.
The Founder again appealed to corporate bodies, civil society organisations and individuals to also come on board to support the project.
