The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is set to roll out programmes and initiatives to capture the entire working population in the various sectors of the economy including the informal sector to boost pension contribution.
According to its Director-General, Dr. John Ofori–Tenkorang, the Trust will consolidate its stakeholder engagements to sensitise Ghanaians on the relevance of pension contribution.
Speaking at a forum organised by the Ghana National Association of Teachers 2022. Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang said such a move will transform the pension industry in Ghana.
According to him, the campaign has become necessary because persons in some public and informal sectors do not patronise the pension scheme.
"We will come up with new programmes to engage all our people, both in the public and informal sector to know how important pension is. Some of them do not see it relevance but it's the best for any citizen in Ghana”, he said
He further maintained that the scheme will deepen the relationship with various stakeholders.
"We want all our stakeholders to know we are with them and will work collectively no matter the situation”, he opined.
President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, Rev Isaac Owusu, said his outfit is investing in a number of projects which would guarantee some financial cushion for its members.
He further entreated them to contribute to the scheme.
"We have another tier-three initiative to support our members, but we have to contribute to the trust as well".
This year’s Investment Forum is the second and was under the theme "Ghana’s workers’ pensions, challenges and solutions for growth in the next decade".
