The Manso Nkwantahene, Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah, has received boxes of science books for distribution to schools in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region.
The donation was done by Professor Albert Joseph Quarm. At the presentation, Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah expressed commendation for the books worth GHC150,000 to support education in the district.
The gesture was made to improve science education among children at the various basic schools in the district.
The textbooks for both primary and junior high school students have been approved by the Ministry of Education as part of the new curriculum.
Professor Albert Joseph Quarm who donated the books said he has always been committed to supporting quality education in underserved communities.
He believes that the effort will significantly improve the standard of education across basic schools in the district.
He emphasized that giving such assistance to his community as part of the "Adaekese" festival is important for him both personally and professionally.
Prof. Quarm noted that "it has been my wish always to help education to move forward as a writer and a publisher."
He said that one of his corporate social responsibilities is to help some deprived areas to develop, "for 'Adaekese' for an area I come from, I have to pay homage.
"So when I came I also decided to give books worth GHC150,000 to support education within Amansie West District," Prof. Quarm said.
The students in the district have been urged by the former Member of Parliament to take their studies seriously in order to earn good grades to enter higher institutions of learning.
He also asked that coordinated efforts be made to provide the District Directorate of Education with the tools it needs to properly carry out its mandate of fostering proper teaching and learning in the district.
Nana Appiah thanked Prof. Quarm for his assistance and urged him to do more.
He stated that one of the biggest challenges in the district is education, which requires quick attention.
He pointed out that much like the government, parents are unable to solve every issue, therefore Prof. Quarm's support came at the right time and will have a significant impact.
He stated that the District Directorate of Education will receive the books and distribute them to the neediest schools.
In order for them to grow up to be responsible adults, Nana Appiah also urged kids in the various villages to focus on their education.
