Pupils in public primary schools in the Ashanti Region are expected to return to school on Monday after some teachers who returned to school on Friday met empty classrooms.

After waiting for several hours hoping the students would return to school, teachers of the State Experimental Basic Schools had to return home without entering their classrooms.

The teachers were delighted to return to class after an almost two-week nationwide strike was called off.

Classrooms at the State Experimental Basic 2 School were opened for primary school pupils to return to class.

But what was supposed to be a happy reunion between teachers and students fell through.

Luv News checks revealed that no primary school pupil was seen within the precincts of the school. Headmaster of the school, Solomon Osei Kankam explained the cause of the no student turn-up.

“Because today is Friday, the children have decided to stay back until probably Monday. I took the opportunity to call some of the parents, they told me the week has almost ended. So they prefer letting the children come on Monday. However teachers have reported,” he said.

At the JHS block of the school, however, form 3 students in their casual wear stayed glued to the French lessons.

Speaking to Luv News, the excited candidates were however worried the weeks lost could affect their performance in the imminent basic education certificate examination.

“When we were in JHS one, there was a lockdown. So we didn’t learn most of the things we were supposed to for our form one lessons. So we were trying to catch up but unfortunately the teachers went on strike and that can affect our studies. We are glad they are back,” one of the students told Luv News.

Teachers at the school however assure of measures to cover-up.

“We have only a few weeks to vacate but we will put in place measures to cover-up the lost weeks. We will try to extend the time to support the children. We are even planning on adding Saturdays to help them,” the headmaster assured.
