Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery has revealed that his first client as a lawyer refused to pay him legal fees.
According to Mr. Dery, this is in spite of the fact that he succeeded in getting the client acquitted and discharged.
He disclosed that when he asked the client for the legal fees, he was told that the service was to his "master."
Speaking to JoyNews during a visit by the Paramount Chief of Zuarungu, Naba Belia-Maalitenga Afegra III to Accra, he said he could not push any further for the money.
"My first murder case I did was for a Frafra man. He didn't pay me and when I asked, he told me I should be happy that I've defended my boss. I will like to recommend this relationship to all in the country," he said jokingly.
Mr. Dery used this account to explain the long-standing relationship between the Dagaaba and Frafra tribes in the Northern part of the country to make an appeal for all Ghanaians to see themselves as one by promoting ethnic tolerance.
The Minister holds the view that if the relationship between the two tribes is emulated, it will further deepen the peace in the country.
He however indicated that "Ghana is blessed. In Ghana, we don't have very strict hard divisions between ethnic groups. In my house, we have an Akan wife, we have a Dagomba wife and we have an Ewe wife. This country especially, we have something special we should work for."
"I wish to appeal to all of us to come together so that we can support our security agencies so Ghana will continue to be the most peaceful country," he added.
The Royal visit by Naba Belia-Maalitenga Afegra III to Accra is the first of its kind with the aim of mobilising resources for development.
The Chief acknowledged some developmental projects in the area undertaken by the government, and appealed for more.
