The Old Vandals Association has requested the University of Ghana to provide a report on the investigation conducted on the clash between the two male halls in 2021 based on which the University insists on ejecting continuing students from the halls.
According to them, if the university provides evidence of any Vandal involved in any unlawful activity, they would allow the decision made on the continuing students to prevail.
Speaking on JoyNews' The Pulse on Tuesday, former president of Commonwealth Hall, Bernard Oduro Takyi said, “If the university says the Vandals are complicit in a certain vulgar attitude and behaviour, they have to put out the report.”
“We are giving them 72 hours to publish the report and name those who are found to be culpable and when they do, we will come out openly to let them sanction those involved. But, until that thing is done, any act by the university to go on the path they are going is biting more than they can chew,” he added.
The Old Vandals Association invaded the university campus Tuesday morning to show their solidarity with current students affected by management’s decision to eject students of the two residential halls.
According to the school management, all continuing students of the Commonwealth Hall, an all-male hall of residence, and continuing male students of Mensah Sarbah Hall will not return to their halls nor to any of the traditional halls.
“They are to be randomly assigned to available rooms in any of the UGEL and private hostels,” a communique on December 14, said.
Aggrieved students say this is the latest attempt by the university’s management to weaken student activism on campus while creating a rift between freshers and the continuing students.
