Six years ago tragedy struck the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District in the Central Region when a kindergarten block at Breman Jamera School collapsed.
On January 6, 2017, about 70 pupils were preparing to begin lessons when the tragic incident occurred. On that fateful Tuesday, six schoolchildren died.
They were Shadida Abdulla, 4; Juliana Ayensu, 6; Hibalatu Abdullah, 5; Gladys Ampofo, 3; Esther Mensah, 6; and Christiana Annan, 6.
Fortunately, the particular KG block was rebuilt by an NGO within months.
However, years later some students of Jamera Methodist D/A School also in Asikuma Odoben - only about 200 metres away from where the incident occurred - are fearful for their life.

The basic school buildings are in an appalling state, the structures are so bad the students fear for their lives while praying against another collapse. When it rains they are no longer unable to study and classes come to an end.

Visiting the school, JoyNews’ Richard Kojo Nyarko reported that there are days some particles fall on the kids while studying and the holes in the roof give them a view of the sky.
He stated that with the tragedy of what occurred six years ago in mind, many of the school kids are scared there will be a repeat.

The school’s ICT centre has thus been converted into a classroom to ensure some of the student’s safety. This has also affected the studies of BECE candidates who need to learn ICT for their forthcoming exams.
Also, about 60-70 students are in a classroom

Currently, Joy FM/JoyNews is soliciting funds to complete the Jamera Methodist D/A Basic School.
Although the project is ongoing more needs to be done.

About GH¢100,000 is needed complete the structure. The money will cater for roofing, getting doors and windows fixed, painting and other details needed.

To support donate towards the building via MOMO on 0593038832 or via Access Bank with account name Multimedia Group Limited/Joy OPS, account number 0090101054191, Castle Road, Accra branch, branch code 009 and swift code ABNGGHAC.
Also, those who are able to donate building materials like roofing sheets, wood, furniture, tiles, marker boards, fans, and light switches, among others are welcome to do so.
