Two teachers of Obuasi Senior High Technical School have been arrested by police over their alleged involvement in an attack on the school’s headmaster, Abdulai Zakaria.

Police say preliminary investigations indicate that the two teachers, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, allegedly instigated students to attack the headmaster.

The incident occurred on August 5, 2026, following tensions on campus.

Some students accused the headmaster of involvement in ritual activities and also alleged inappropriate relationships with female students.

Obuasi District Police Commander, Superintendent Mahama Iddrisu, told JoyNews that three teachers were initially picked up for questioning after the headmaster gave a formal statement to police.

According to him, investigations later focused on two of the teachers, who are expected to be put before court.

“The headmaster was attacked. He was hospitalised. After he was released, he gave a statement to the police and, in the statement he gave, he mentioned certain names. He says there were students who attacked him and there were teachers who instigated them to attack him,” he said.

“Initially, there were three people that we picked yesterday, and then we investigated. We took their statements and through their statements and the headmaster’s statement, we see that they have a lot of questions to answer.

“So, as I’m speaking now, we are putting them before court this morning so that we seek for remand. Maybe the court will remand them to police custody for us to continue with our investigations. The two suspects are teachers of the SecTech school,” he added.

Police probe foetus found on campus

Superintendent Iddrisu also disclosed that police are awaiting an autopsy and possible DNA examination on a male foetus that was exhumed from a location on the school campus.

The foetus, which was recovered on August 5, is currently being kept at the Obuasi Government Hospital morgue.

“It is true that a baby boy was buried on the campus of the school, very far from the dormitory. Our information was that the students saw it and then went and exhumed it, and then they are putting false allegations that it is the headmaster or they are alleging that it is the headmaster who buried it, without any evidence or eyewitness or any video saying that they have seen him,” he said.

He added that the suspicion surrounding the burial contributed to the attack on the headmaster.

“The body of the baby boy has been taken by the police to the Obuasi Government Hospital for preservation and maybe we will do a post-mortem examination and, if possible, a DNA test to know exactly who brought it, if it is the headmaster or any other person,” Superintendent Iddrisu said.

Meanwhile, the headmaster, who sustained machete injuries during the attack, has since been discharged from hospital.
