The four-day event, held between 7th and 11th May 2023 at KNUST’s Paa Joe Sports Stadium, Kumasi, saw selected regions of Ghana competing for honours.
It’s been five years since the National Hockey Championship was last organized.
Upon its return, six regions, namely the Western, Volta, Greater Accra, Central, Eastern and host Ashanti region, staged a battle of supremacy in the men’s division on the hockey pitch of Paa Joe Stadium.

Central, Greater and Ashanti competed for honours in the women’s division.
After three days of competitive fixtures, Central Region and Greater Accra region qualified to the finals of the women’s category, with Accra beating their rivals 2-0.
Greater Accra won the women’s competition, Central came second while Ashanti picked bronze.
For the men’s division, Ashanti region and Greater Accra region qualified to the finals, an exciting contest that was close to call.

The Accra-based team took a two-goal lead in the last quarter of the match, as the host piled pressure on their opponents. Despite pulling one goal back, Ashanti could not make their dominance count in the last part of the final.
Greater Accra clinched gold once again and lifted the trophy to the admiration of their officials and players who participated.

Executive Board member of Ghana Hockey Association, Isaac Graham, commended their partners Ghana Gas, for making it possible to organize the first National Hockey Championship in five years.
Players and team officials for the top three in each category were given medals.
