After several years of pushing harder to qualify for the regional stage of the NSMQ, students of the Berekum Methodist Senior High and Technical School would finally have a feel of the national competition later this year.
The school, since its establishment in 1998, had not garnered enough experience to move to the next stage of the competition.
But in a calm performance, they toppled Drobo SHS and Jinjini SHS in a low-point win.
The contest began with a slow performance from the participating schools as they all could not accrue a double-digit score at the end of the first two rounds.
The first round saw all three schools scoring 5 points each until Methodist SHTS, Berekum managed to add one point to their marks at the end of round two.
In the third round, Drobo SHS took a two-point lead ahead of its closest contender, Methodist SHTS-Berekum, clutching 15 points.
But their determination to have an experience of the national competition would not allow the boys from Berekum to give up on their hopes as they forcefully whisked away 3 points from the riddles round.
This pushed them one point ahead as they won the contest.
Despite their ‘abysmal’ performance at the regional qualifiers, the students are unfazed and ambitious to improve on their strengths to secure a safe spot at the national competition.
