Administrative offices at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology remained open while other essential services like I.T. have been disrupted as the industrial action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) enters day two.

Members of GAUA are embarking on a nationwide strike in protest of what they describe as unfair market premium and allowance disparities.

Although the administrators have laid down their tools, JoyNews checks at the university campus revealed administrative offices are running as students and other non-striking staff sought services from them.

Enquiries at these offices indicate that contract staff and administrators who are not members of the association were on post to offer assistance to individuals seeking solutions to their issues.

However, IT infrastructure needed to process certain requests remained a challenge as the key staff with access to them are not at post.

Ordinarily, the parking lot at the frontage of the university’s administration is filled with more vehicles, especially during working hours. However, checks show empty spaces purporting that the usual occupants could be members of the association.

At the IT office of the university, students were seen in a queue as some officials at the department tended to their needs. However, the office occupied by a GAUA member was closed.

JoyNews sources indicate that the Association may have failed to properly notify the National Labour Commission before embarking on the industrial action.
