Chirano Gold Mine is investing in educational development within its catchment communities to create a rich pool of human resources that can be relied upon for the sustainability of the mine and other services necessary for development.
The company believes the sustainability of the mining industry hinges on the availability of a well-educated workforce, hence the focus on education to guarantee a better future.
“Education is the heartbeat of our business. The work we do, we understand that gold extraction requires a high level of expertise, innovation, creativity and technology, which are all products of education,” said General Manager, Stephen Asante Yamoah.
According to him, the vision extends far beyond mining to encompass building strong, inclusive, and prosperous communities.
“Education is the foundation upon which sustainable development is built. It is the key that unlocks doors of opportunity, empowering individuals to reach their fullest potential and contribute meaningfully to the growth and prosperity of our nation,” he said.
Mr Asante Yamoah was speaking at the inauguration of the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Office of the Ghana Education Service, which has been renovated by Chirano Gold Mines.
The investment in educational infrastructure reinforces Asante Chirano’s vision to empower and involve local stakeholders for community development.
“This beautifully completed edifice is a show of how Asante Chirano, despite our current fiscal challenges, continues to partner with stakeholders to bring development to our communities, through educational development among others,” said Mr Asante Yamoah.

The creation of the Western North Region and the elevation of Sefwi Wiawso to a regional capital status requires the upgrade of infrastructure.
The rehabilitation of the GES office is to provide a conducive and modern environment for educators and administrators to carry out their mission of imparting knowledge and nurturing the minds of future leaders.
“We are happy to say that the new look of this building and the upgrade of the facilities inside, is now befitting of the Municipal Headquarters of the Ghana Education Service,” said Mr Yamoah.
The project was executed through collaborative partnership.
Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Director of Education, Abraham Fletcher, says a major area of interest for the directorate is effective and assertive teaching and learning, especially comprehensive reading habits among children.
“When children can read and write, then they can understand questions asked in examinations, express themselves well and conduct their own research,” he stated.
