Government through the Transport Ministry has announced the reintroduction of the visa-on-arrival for passengers to Ghana during this festive season.
The decision, according to the Ministry, was made in consultation with the Foreign Affairs, Interior, Tourism Ministries, Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
In a letter addressed to all airlines, the Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah said the initiative commences from Friday, December 1 to Sunday January 14.
“Consequently, it would be appreciated if systems are updated to reflect this new arrangement and those responsible for checking-in passengers traveling to Ghana advised not to insist on entry visas prior to their boarding,” portions of the statement read.
He further explained that the initiative is to support the government’s 10-year project “Beyond The Return”, which gives Africans in the diaspora the opportunity to "connect with their roots."
This not the first time Ghana has implemented the visa-on-arrival policy.
It was first introduced last year during the festive season, and the country witnessed a huge number of tourists visiting from all over the world.
