Mortuary workers strike: Government knows the consequences - Prof. Sampene

Forensic Pathologist, Professor Paul Poku Sampene Ossei, has cautioned the government on the negative impact of any industrial action by mortuary workers on health institutions.

This was after the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana indicated its readiness to strike from Wednesday, November 29, over the non-payment of their 3-year allowances.

Professor Sampene says the group deserves better, hence government must address the situation with a sense of urgency.

“I support the strike action. The government knows the consequences of this. It is their right. We have only 420 of them in this whole country and the government cannot pay them? 1,000 cedis a year?” he asked.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Mortuary Workers Association, Ebenezer Toku Amankwa, says their strike will also affect related-sectors.

“Drinking bars, coffin makers, pallbearers, hearse operators, etc will all suffer if this strike kicks in,” he said.
