Ghana's national cycling champion Michael Naaba withdrew from the cycling competition due to a faulty bicycle.
Shortly after taking off, the tube connected to Naaba's bike exploded.
With no spare bicycle available to the Ghanaian champion, he was left with no choice than to discontinue the race.
Naaba had earlier complained about the quality of cycling equipment and gear the Golden Bikes had to compete with.
"It's the same equipment I have been training with. I've been training on this highway. Every day after work. Before work too (at dawn)."
Michael Naaba and his Golden Bikes team were forced to use their personal gear, and equipment for the Games after the Sports Ministry and the Ghana Cycling Federation's failed to provide the necessary equipments.
It was therefore not surprising that Naaba's old and fault-prone equipment, gave up just after the event stared.
"But the issue was the tube. It's the same tube I've been using for training and I had to use it for the competition because I had no option" he concluded.
In June 2023, Michael Naaba won the 2023 National Cycling Championship in Ho, Volta region.
His performance at the tournament and the subsequent event - Tour du Burkina Faso, made him Ghana's best bet for a medal in the men's cycling event.
However, the 30-year-old will now have to follow the rest of the competition from the side lines.
