The Member of Parliament for Kpando has launched an awards scheme to celebrate women contributing to the physical, human, and economic development of the constituency.
Della Sowah says the scheme christened ‘Kpando Outstanding Women Awards’ (KOWA), was instituted to honour the awardees for contributing in diverse ways to uplift the status of the constituency.
Speaking at the launch in Kpando, she announced that women in the fields of politics, health, education, community leadership, agriculture, entertainment, culture, sports development, cultural heritage, and artisans, would be awarded.

Madam Sowah further indicated that it was imperative to identify women who are working tirelessly in their little corners to enhance the livelihoods of constituents.
“If you cannot identify your heroes, nobody will die for the community”, she stressed.

She added that the initiative is also geared towards empowering women to take up leadership roles in their areas of operations to become role models for the young ones.
“If you ask any woman now, can you be in charge of this community? The first thing they will say is 'I don't want insults'. So we can see that we are not encouraging, especially women, to take up leadership roles in the various sectors of life.
"So, this [KOWA] is to encourage women, we do it yearly to encourage women to take leadership roles in all spheres of life to be examples to other people.”
Madam Sowah said a panel will be constituted to investigate and interview nominees in the various categories, adding that winners will be announced on the 8th of May and the main awards ceremony held on the 12th of May, Mother's Day.
She, therefore, urged constituents to nominate women identified to be doing exceedingly well in their various fields to be honoured at the maiden edition of KOWA.
