The Group Stands for Peace, Growth, and Development (GSPGD) has praised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for its unbiased investigation into the Airbus scandal.
Former President John Mahama has been said to be the mysterious 'Government Official 1' in UK court documents and 'Individual 1' in U.S. filings.
Despite these identifications, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng's thorough inquiry found no evidence of corruption or bribery involving Mr. Mahama during the aircraft procurement process.
The Airbus scandal, dating back to Mahama’s presidency, centred on Ghana’s purchase of military aircraft from Airbus, sparking allegations of misconduct.
However, the OSP’s report, following a detailed investigation, concluded that Mr. Mahama’s involvement was driven by good intentions, with no trace of corrupt practices.
GSPGD expressed deep gratitude to the OSP for maintaining independence and resisting political pressure, highlighting the importance of justice and fairness in public office.
The group also commended Mr. Mahama for his transparency and urged him to prioritize patriotism and integrity if given the mandate to govern again.
GSPGD stated the need for leaders who place national interest above all else to ensure the country’s growth and development.
