A former General Secretary of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah has officially endorsed John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 election.
Speaking to Joy News at the NDC's final campaign rally at Zurak Park in Madina, Accra, she passionately declared her support for Mahama, citing his proven leadership and the urgent need for a change in governance.
“I am here because of John Mahama. I am here because I believe Ghana has to be liberated. Ghana has to be free from what is going on, and the only political party at this moment to help us out of this situation is the NDC,” she stated.
The former CPP General Secretary and former emphasized Mahama's track record as president, highlighting his achievements and leadership capabilities. “I am officially endorsing John Mahama to be the next president of Ghana. He has done it before; he has ruled this country before, and he did it perfectly well. I think it is time for us to give him a second chance to finish the good work that he started,” she added.
It is not clear whether Yaa Jantuah has effectively crossed the carpet from the CPP to the NDC with this decision to endorse John Mahama.
Nana Yaa Jantuah once served as the Public Relations and External Affairs Manager at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).
Nana Yaa Jantuah resigned from her position as General Secretary of the CPP in December 2023.
This was after members of the CPP from various parts of the country petitioned the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) to compel all national executives to either voluntarily resign or be removed over their alleged incompetence.
A vote of no confidence was passed against all the national executives at a crucial NEC meeting in Kumasi.
Nana Yaa Jantuah was elected as the General Secretary of the CPP in August 2020.
