Prominent Member of the Table of Men Group, Kwesi Ernest, has disclosed that the group has been on recess for quite some time now.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, he mentioned that the reason for the break is to allow the group to realign and refocus.
“The Table of Men is on recess to formulate policies and build ourselves properly in order to move forward with speed. We have been engaging in internal activities, reviewing our constitution, and determining who should be our next chairman to serve the people effectively. If we don’t do this, we may be drawn into industry politics, which goes beyond our core agenda.”
He added that the Table of Men was established as a pressure group to support gospel musicians in the creative industry, aiming to curb marginalisation and ensure they receive the recognition they deserve.
In previous years, the Table of Men had been at the forefront of campaigns for gospel artistes in the Artiste of the Year category.
However, in recent news, Kwesi Ernest clarified that the group is not a PR machine for gospel artistes and is currently on a break, which explains their absence.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, he acknowledged a wave of backlash against the group, with some critics stating that they do not provide enough support to the gospel fraternity.
These conversations have been sparked by the group’s absence in the lead-up to this year’s TGMAs, which feature two gospel acts in the Artiste of the Year category.
He explained that the organisation is not obliged to promote any particular gospel artiste but is geared towards supporting them.
He added that while the group is currently on a break—hence their absence—it is not focused solely on award schemes.
The Table of Men also offers training and guidance about the industry to up-and-coming gospel acts and their teams.
