Assembly Members of the Bole Municipality in the Savannah Region have defied what some residents described as emotional blackmail and agitations from sections of the youth to endorse Abdulai Mahamud as the President’s nominee for Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
The confirmation took place amid heightened tensions in the district capital, Bole, but a combined security team led by the Savannah Regional Security Council (REGSEC) ensured calm and order throughout the process.
Mr Mahamud, a young educationist from Bamboi, a suburb of the municipality, received overwhelming support, securing 34 ‘Yes’ votes against 5 ‘No’ votes—representing 87% approval.
He becomes the ninth Chief Executive of the Bole Municipal Assembly and the second person from Bamboi to hold the position.

In his acceptance speech, the newly confirmed MCE, who is also a teacher, farmer, and politician, expressed appreciation to the Assembly Members for their trust and pledged to prioritise development in the municipality.
"I appreciate you as a major stakeholders in our quest to see the municipality develop. With your mandate, I assure you that the development challenges confronting us will be tackled together and holistically, for the betterment of all," Mr Mahamud said.

The Bole Municipal Assembly, established in 1988, has since had nine Municipal Chief Executives—three women and six men. Mr Mahamud is the second native of Bamboi to be appointed to the role, following the tenure of James Jaaga in 2012.
