Para-athlete, Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe, emerged champion in the men’s 42km wheelchair race at the 2025 Absa Black Star Marathon, finishing ahead of a strong field of competitors.
Nkegbe, one of Ghana’s most celebrated Paralympians, secured first place and a cash prize of GHS10,000 after a commanding performance through the streets of Accra.
He expressed pride in the win and called for greater support for para sports in Ghana.
“This victory means a lot to me, not just as an athlete but as a voice for para sports in Ghana,” he said. “Every push of my wheels today was a reminder that disability is not inability. I hope our performance inspires the next generation of athletes living with disabilities to dream big and never give up.”
Seidu Sule Sagbarigu finished second, taking home GHS5,000, while Patrick Kudo came in third, earning GHS3,000.
In the men’s 10km wheelchair race, Mohammed Fadiga claimed the top spot and received GHS1,000. Bismarck Kyei placed second with GHS700, and Richmond Essel came third with GHS500.
