The Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) has announced the postponement of the Media Launch and Opening of Nominations for its ninth edition, originally scheduled for Tuesday, 12th August 2025, at the Airport View Hotel in Accra.
This decision follows the recent tragic loss of distinguished statesmen and gallant soldiers in a devastating helicopter crash — an incident that has cast a deep shadow of grief across the nation.
In a statement jointly signed by the Event Director, Ing. Henry Teinor, and the Chairman of the Awarding Panel, Mr. Kwame Jantuah, Esq., the Ghana Energy Awards extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed its solidarity with the entire nation during this period of mourning.

The organisers explained that the decision, made after extensive consultations with stakeholders and partners, reflects a united resolve to pause, reflect, and honour the memory of the lives lost.
The energy sector, like many industries across Ghana, has felt the profound impact of losing individuals who played instrumental roles in shaping national policy. The postponement underscores the sector’s deep respect for their contributions and sacrifices.

In alignment with the Government’s declaration of a three-day National Mourning period and preparations for the inter-denominational state funeral on Friday, 15th August 2025 at the Black Star Square, the GEA believes it is both timely and appropriate to suspend its scheduled activities.
A new date for the Media Launch and Opening of Nominations will be announced after further consultations.
As Ghana prepares to bid farewell to its heroes, the Ghana Energy Awards invites all stakeholders, partners, and the public to join in honouring their sacrifice, legacy, and service to the nation.
The Ghana Energy Awards is a flagship initiative of the Energy Media Group, celebrating excellence, leadership, and innovation within the country’s energy sector.
