Former President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Ben Nunoo Mensah, has made a generous donation to Team Ghana as they gear up for the 2025 African Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championship.
The presentation took place on Friday, August 15, at the National Weightlifting training gym inside the Accra Sports Stadium.
Mensah donated several cartons of energy drinks and bottled water, along with an undisclosed cash amount, to the team, which includes both male and female lifters competing in various categories.
He used the occasion to reaffirm his unwavering support and commitment to the sport.
“This [donation] is to motivate you to give your all in the championship. There are even bigger things ahead,” he said.

“If you win, after the event, your technical team and president will bring you [weightlifters] to my house and we’ll celebrate. We’ll have a big awards party in my home — so let’s show Africa what Ghana is made of.”
The championship is expected to attract elite youth and junior athletes, coaches, and officials from across the continent. Ghana will host the event for the first time at the Ga-Mashie Hall, Trust Sports Emporium.
Organisers expect around 200 athletes and officials from 18 African countries to participate, promising a thrilling showcase of strength, determination, and sporting excellence.
