Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has formally filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 presidential flagbearer slot.
The NPP headquarters in Accra erupted into a carnival-like scene as hundreds of enthusiastic supporters poured onto the premises before the submission of nomination forms by Dr Bawumia.
Dressed in white and blue, the crowd wore branded T-shirts, waved flags, and danced to the sounds of a lively brass band.
The electrifying atmosphere turned the filing process into a grand show of political strength and grassroots excitement.
For many supporters, the event symbolised not just a routine party process but a defining moment in the race to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
Nominations for the flagbearer race opened on July 29, 2025, and officially closed today, August 28, 2025. The party is set to publish the full list of qualified aspirants on October 8, ahead of balloting and the much-anticipated election on January 31, 2026, which will determine who carries the party’s banner into the 2028 polls.
