The streets of Borteyman in Accra came alive on Sunday, September 21, 2025, as the Gladiators Cycling Club staged the 4th edition of the Osagyefo Criterium in celebration of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s birthday.
The event drew 33 men and 5 women who tested their endurance and strategy over 110km and 77km respectively, giving fans a thrilling display of speed, power, and determination.
Nigeria’s Mary Sunday stole the spotlight in the women’s category with a commanding ride that secured her victory and the GHS 5,000 prize. She was joined on the podium by Coxson Treasure of Team Subsea in second place and Ghana’s Ellen Anim in third.
The men’s race was a tense battle from start to finish, with the peloton shutting down every attempt at a breakaway. It all came down to a breathtaking sprint finish that required a photo review to decide the winner.
Prince Kudufia of EPIC Cycling Club emerged champion, claiming the GHS 7,500 top prize, with Solomon Tagoe of Gutten Cycling Club finishing second and Prince Maison of Club Sky Team taking third.
The success of the race was made possible by the tireless work of more than 23 volunteers, the coordination of race marshals led by Madam Cassandra Tawiah, and safety officers from the Ghana Police Service and National Ambulance Service.
Technical support and officiating were provided by the Ghana Cycling Federation through Rudolf Mensah, John Zormelo, Nii Anum Quaye, Wilson Nkurmah, Elizabeth, and Eric “30 30 Laps” Adjetey Sowah.
At the heart of the organisation were Hansen Quao, Andrew Kamkam, and members of the Gladiators Cycling Club, who delivered a spectacle many described as world-class.
President of the Club, Mr. Kojo Graham — popularly known as Power to the People — praised the winners, organisers, and fans, stressing that the Osagyefo Criterium is more than just a race but a symbol of teamwork, unity, and a living tribute to the visionary legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
With thrilling speed, strategy, and solidarity on display, the 2025 Osagyefo Criterium once again reaffirmed its place as Ghana’s premier cycling showcase.
