The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals over an alleged plot to assassinate a Chief in the Eastern Region ahead of his upcoming Royal Durbar.
The suspects, identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were picked up in an intelligence-led operation after police uncovered a plan to eliminate the Chief before his first durbar scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng.
According to a statement signed by DSP David Fianko-Okyere, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the police received actionable intelligence on October 11, 2025, and swiftly infiltrated the suspects’ network.
During the operation, Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to undercover officers to carry out the killing of both the Chief and another woman who was reportedly being considered for installation as Queen Mother.
Investigations revealed that she also instructed Butuakwa Seth to assist in identifying the residences of the intended victims. Seth later led officers to the homes of the Chief and the woman, and provided a photograph of the Chief to facilitate the planned attack.
The suspects are also said to have promised an additional GH₵50,000 upon successful execution of the crime.
Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court soon.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to protecting the safety and security of residents, particularly traditional leaders in the region, as investigations continue.
