The Nigerian government has confirmed that ongoing security cooperation and intelligence collaboration with the United States has led to precision strikes on terrorist targets in the country’s North West.
In a press release issued on Friday, December 26, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured collaboration with international partners to tackle the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism.
The cooperation, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained, “includes the exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination, and other forms of support consistent with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security.”
The ministry reassured that all counter-terrorism operations are conducted with the primary goal of protecting civilian lives and safeguarding national unity.
It emphasised that “terrorist violence in any form, whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities, remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security.”
According to the statement, the Federal Government is working closely with its partners to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, prevent cross-border threats, and strengthen Nigeria’s own security institutions and intelligence capabilities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further pledged to continue engaging relevant international partners and keep the public informed through official channels.
