Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has criticised Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng over claims that the New Patriotic Party’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The Bimbilla MP, speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, Mr Nitiwul questioned the basis of the allegation and turned the spotlight on Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s own political choices.
“What was the basis for what Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng said?” he asked.
Mr Nitiwul said while he holds Prof Frimpong-Boateng in high regard professionally, he believes the former Environment Minister has struggled to find his footing in politics.
“I respect him as a surgeon, as one of the best doctors that we have found, but I think politically, he needs to ask him whether it was good for him to come into politics.”
He suggested the comments may stem from deeper personal reflections rather than firm political evidence.
“That’s all I will say about him, and he knows why.”
Mr Nitiwul hinted that he may be among a small number of people who can speak candidly to Prof Frimpong-Boateng on the matter.
“Maybe I’m one of the few who can talk to him from here.”
He ended with a pointed remark that underscored his view of the former minister’s political journey.
“But if I were him, I would ask myself sincerely whether it was good for him to jump into politics.”
Prof Frimpong-Boateng recently alleged that the NPP’s 2023 presidential primary was manipulated to favour Dr Bawumia, a claim that has stirred debate within the party and drawn reactions from senior figures, including Mr Nitiwul.
