Twelve people injured in the violent mob attack that rocked New Winneba and surrounding communities have been discharged from the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

Eight others remain on admission, while three people have died following the violence, according to the Central Regional Police Command.

The incident which left three dead and 15 injured is believed to have been triggered by a land dispute involving residents of Effutu and Gomoa.

Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ohene Bossman, said the police moved swiftly to contain the violence after what he described as a rampage by residents from Effutu and Gomoa.

According to him, the police had to evacuate the injured and transport the bodies of those killed to the trauma specialist hospital in Winneba.

“We have three dead. We had 19 on admission. Unfortunately, this morning I went with the Regional Minister to visit them again. Yesterday we were there, today we went there again, and 12 of them have been discharged, leaving eight, and the three dead,” he said.

The police have since arrested six suspects in connection with the violence and launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Additional security personnel have also been deployed to the affected communities to restore confidence, maintain order and prevent further escalation.

The police have further deployed two armoured vehicles, alongside personnel from the national headquarters, as part of measures to strengthen security in New Winneba and its environs.

The situation is currently described as calm but tense, with residents calling for sustained security presence and an end to the violence.
